Suggestion: Super Game Boy borders #110

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

This is more of an enhancement than a defect, but I think it would be great
if SGB games could be played with their borders. Thanks if you decide to
implement it, I understand if you can't or if it's low priority. :)

I don't know if the code for borders already exists or not in VBA-M. I'll have
a
look.

The Windows version of VBA-M build 781 definitely supports borders, but I have
no
idea if it's just the Windows build or if it's also in the SDL version.

We're not using SDL here.

Oh. In which case, I should have said, "I have no idea if it's just the Windows
build, or if it's in the base code that they're made from."

there's support in VBA-M for this, and already a partial implementation you'll
find
in vbasupport.cpp line 1012. But I never actually tried to use this. You'd need
to
check if there was a texture size difference, scaling adjustments needed, etc.

just to add something here: Are Super Gameboy PALETTES possible in VBA GX?
(for instance play old-school Gameboy-Tetris with Super Gameboy color palette
instead
of grey?)

Games that support Super Gameboy are in colour already.

Palettes are implemented now, so you can play monochrome gameboy games in any
colours
you want. You can't select from any built-in palettes yet though, except by
cutting
and pasting in the XML file.

Things like specific palettes built into specific hardware are impossible for
me to
implement without the hardware or documentation.

If you guys are attempting to emulate the SGB in some way then you may be
interested
in this http://www.its.caltech.edu/~costis/sgb_hack/

Basically someone recently dumped the boot rom from a SGB, which could help
accurately emulate the pallettes used by the SGB. It was reported recently on
dcemu
GBA section. It would help with functionality with games that actually took
advantage of the SGB as well. Anyways it's there if you're interested in
taking a
look at it.

Anyways I thought I'd throw it out there since some scene sites are ignoring it
and
just reporting on the GBC boot rom being dumped, and not the SGB, which would
probably otherwise go unseen unless you visited one of the few sites reporting
the
SGB boot rom dump.
