This seems to be a duplicate of #150. I recently pushed a fix to master that should hopefully fix this issue.
Since you're on Flatpak, you can use the following command to install a development version of Protontricks with the fix applied. Can you check if it solves the issue?
$ flatpak install --user https://dl.flathub.org/build-repo/94421/com.github.Matoking.protontricks.flatpakref
Yeah sure, let me give it a shot.
This also happens with Proton 4.11 and the wmp9 and vcrun2017 verbs at least.
warning: Running /home/user/.var/app/com.github.Matoking.protontricks/cache/protontricks/proton/Proton 4.11/bin/wineserver -w. This will hang until all wine processes in prefix=/mnt/dd2/steam2/steamapps/compatdata/247660/pfx terminate
I'm using Ubuntu 22.04 and the flatpak, version 1.8.2; that development version doesn't seem to be available anymore. If I kill cmd.exe, while protontricks is stuck there, the installation continues and vcrun2017 ends up installing correctly but wmp9 gives another error:
------------------------------------------------------
Terminated

Executing /home/user/.var/app/com.github.Matoking.protontricks/cache/protontricks/proton/Proton 4.11/bin/wine regedit /S C:\windows\Temp\override-dll.reg
esync: up and running.
Executing /home/user/.var/app/com.github.Matoking.protontricks/cache/protontricks/proton/Proton 4.11/bin/wine64 regedit /S C:\windows\Temp\override-dll.reg
xargs: Cannot open input file ‘/proc/7968/environ’: No such file or directory

These verbs work just fine using Proton 4.11 and plain winetricks.
protontricks wmp9
gets unstuck correctly by terminating one of the wineserver processes (the one that doesn't write to disk) instead of cmd.exe. So that '/proc/xxxx/emviron' error is probably irrelevant and caused by terminating cmd.exe (?). The installation gets stuck a second time tough, with the same wineserver -w
message.

Hi there, I have a different problem that should be fixed within the master branch. Could you rebuild the latest master as flatpak and send me the installation url?
@RHeijmann I've released 1.9.0, which should be available on Flathub in a few hours. That release contains the fix, so you can test if the issue is resolved once your Protontricks is updated.

Great thanks! This solved my issue.
