Priority 1: Run for BS and AI

Here are meeting notes. I will formulate these into priorities for next steps in the future. Would a mean cpue map be possible? Mean over all years or other time frames? Lewis: we considered doing all years and “recent” years, but others may be possible (but want to avoid doing many different time frames). Grant: any visuals to indicate substantial changes Melissa: possible to generate set of maps in documents each year Options for getting individual figures if folks want to use in presentations From the chat, Pacific States E-Journal of Scientific Visualizations: https://psesv.psmfc.org/PSESV-1/ Shiny application? Cole: starting at 0 on map for scale, group think on annotations for these that would make them useful for spotting red flags Residuals to fits by year to get an average More year labels on the biomass plot would be helpful, maybe angle the years and label every other one, or at least ticks for the year so the reader can count between years. Need to figure out what the purpose is, originally looking at this year, but also need to think about how this looks historically Growth and length are age at all years, possibly think about how this changes over time, pollock is the only stock that would have in-year species Important to get all areas done, rather than tweaking existing figures

Jane: AI shapefile resolution for survey data is rather poor--could this project help with that? Matt: have not extended to AI yet, but plan to. Jane: difficulties visualizing AI strata due to elongated nature Need to think about our priorities as a group, start with expanding to other regions Matt/Lewis: Fishery dependent data report is more on the lines of what data is available for each stock, observer coverage from year to year (no growth plots), agree to keep this product survey oriented if possible. Doable to make similar fish independent product, but would need to be separate as could increase time of running each report Lee: future concept for adding another dataset to run similar plots To add to the things that Matt is working on, please add to this issue on Github Carey: age-specific CPUE would be informative Buck: to what extent could someone tak the functions you developed in quarto and modify that to address the issues they specifically are interested in, might help Matt might not have to address many different requests, allow folks to take this on their own if they want, Matt: totally possible, public repo, functions are mostly from GAP products schema and can modify functions as the wish, akgfmaps is public repo Ben: it is a synopsis - keep it simple, a lot of comments are getting into exploratory data analysis, if we like the figs we should have a fig package (some of us do) that addresses fig formatting, functionality, etc. Cindy: Regarding the fishery dependent report, FMA (Craig Faunce) is taking lead on that now, we will present updated version after stock assessment season. We can work with this team to make consistencies where possible. They are very different data sources and different questions. Ben Williams: we haven't gotten everyone pulling data in a consistent format as of yet. a lot of comments are getting into exploratory data analysis, if we like the figs we should have a fig package (some of us do) that addresses fig formatting, functionality, etc. Cole: what’s the intended use: quick glance to inform current Lewis: ESR and assessment author formats may be different Melissa: standard reportoutput plus ability for individuals to use/develop code for alternative Melissa: add bubble plots for age/length comps Steve: in https://psesv.psmfc.org/PSESV-1/ I broke every species into 5 even size categories. Ben Williams: I'm a fan of a package that everyone can pull figs from - then we are all using the same data source and have access to the code - "future proofing". We have low/no standards :) Bridget: Additional goal of these is to allow for basic comparison of stocks from California Current, BC, AK for those who are interested Lewis: if want to expand write to Bridget and Lewis to get some funding to expand this to other regions Ben: if create a package to generate figs can make a format switch option

Hi Matt-- I have some of these in the ai-goa data reports repo and you're welcome to use them if you want:

I also won't be offended if you don't use them!
