Short term tests seem to indicate that this works - the data records are saved locally (though without timestamp / uuid) and then transmitted later. No idea how long it will be able to store them or what the memory / storage impact is.
This was closed by the rest-api and sqllite-2 branches which broke out the saving and sending explicitly
