I don't know what is really going on here BUT

it is known legacy kernels work on this hardware so I can speculate

  1. It's not related to ISA size as legacy is much bigger
  2. It probably isn't related to the instructions either
  3. Could be excessive use of kernel parameters? Maybe using constant could do.

User provided info:

Win8 i7 intel64 Family6Model 45 --> 3820 3.6ghz 2x r9 290 in crossfire (no change when disabling crossfire)
