server side hooks #17

Hi, I am trying to use server side hooks. I found the commit b1ef4d17c4ef47598f3f2bfe9b3f33088bfe99ce which removed hook-support.

What were the reasons/problems which lead to removing it? Is there any chance of getting it back? If not, I would have to build something like that anyway, so I could create a PR. But not without knowing anything about the issues you faced back then. ;-)
