Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Install rom without the Google Experience apps installed
2. Install Open GPS Tracker apk from website
3. Open OGT

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expect to see the application open. Instead it Force Closes upon startup

Which Android device are you using?
T-Mobile Pulse

What version of Android are you running?
CyanogenMod 6.1 without Google Apps

What version of the Open GPS Tracker are you running?
1.1.3 and 0.9.20_Cupcake

Please provide any additional information below.
This application previously worked on a different ROM, but now doesn't. The
lack of Google apps is an educated suspicion - based on that it needs Google
apps to display the Google tiles as it uses the Maps API, I'm going to install
Google apps and see what changes. I've tried using osmdroid as it claims to
reimplement the Maps API, but to no avail.

Indeed when the Google experience is missing their is no Google Map API and the
app can't start. It also shouldn't be able to install too. (this is the
behavior on vanilla Android emulators)

The osmdroid is a replacement in function but not technical identical. Both
Google maps API and osmdroid be installed at the same time and an app developer
can use neither, either or both. (OpenGPSTracker uses both)

Could Open GPS Tracker be marked to prompt for an alternative renderer, or use
OSM by default if Google Maps is not available? I'd like to use Open GPS
Tracker, but don't want to have to install Maps if I'm not going to use it

I'll try a separate version without Google Maps next release.
