Very cool program.  Is there an option or  away to turn off the white border 
around the pictures?

You can set the border width with gconftool-2 or gconf-editor:

  gconftool-2 --type int --set /apps/gphotoframe/border_width 0

But, the width cannot be adjusted accurately from the limitation of GTK.
