Sorry, it took a bit more time, I had to find a Linux version of Matlab to install.
So I tried but I'm having trouble to reproduce the problem (Matlab 2018a & Debian Stretch).
MatMef seems to read the Kai's dataset just fine:
Could you try
[a, b] = readMef3('<path_to_your_data>/sub-c02/ses-intraop01/ieeg/sub-c02_ses-intraop01_acq-ref1_ieeg.mefd');
and see what happens? And/or give a bit more detail on how you got your error, so I can try the same.
