MODIS exploratory examples

The USFS AirFire group is harvesting real-time MODIS data and keeping it here: https://haze.airfire.org/Satellite/MODIS/Download/

This task is create some exploratory scripts (in local_tate/) that attempt to download, ingest and spatially locate MODIS data.

This is entirely exploratory and, as such, there are no preferences as to data types. The only suggestion is to focus on the US west coast.

Basic questions to answer:

• [ ] How much new code would need to be written to support MODIS data?
• [ ] What kind of parameters are available in MODIS data? (I think Amy Marsha is already using MODIS data for "hot spot" detection.)
• [ ] Would supporting MODIS data require substantial changes to the code we already have?
• [ ] What level of effort would be required to flesh out a suite of functions that allows this package to work with MODIS data?
