Touchpad doesn't support multiple fingers? #60

My Gateway M-6827 with Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit gives the following 
error after installing 1.0.6:

Driver support for multiple fingers is already enabled but the driver still 
doesn't report multiple fingers.  Either you haven't restarted the system yet 
or your TouchPad doesn't support multiple fingers.

Is the issue that my touchpad truly doesn't support multiple fingers, or is 
there something else that I need to do. I have already installed the latest 
synaptic touchpad drivers.

and I'm sure my laptop supports it because it's on the laptop specifications

I also tried two-finger scroll in Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) and according to 
synaptic, 
the touchpad does not support multiple finger gestures. Bummer.

I'd really love to know if there is a solution to this. Such a great idea but I 
can't enjoy it D:
