Saving settings does not work. #105

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Change a setting, such as upload destination.
2. Turn off/reboot the computer.
3. Turn the pc back on.
4. Check the Destinations, it'll be the old one, not the set one.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
- I expect it to save the settings, because those are the settings I chose.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
- 7.2.3.345 - win7 64bit

Please provide any additional information below.
- It does however, save when I manually close the program then open it up
again. Perhaps it should save immediately after you change something. Or add a
"Save settings" button somewhere.

First off, apologies for the late reply.

How are you restarting your computer? Most programs don't save their settings
if they are terminated forcibly, as it's seen as possibly being a crash, and
saving the settings could cause the program to crash upon launch.

I agree, though, it should save settings earlier than it does, or provide a
button or something. I'll defer to McoreD for that.

Just using the normal Start -> Shutdown button in Win7. A button would be
greatly appreciated :)

Thanks for the handy program! Great work guys.

No, I mean, after you click Shutdown, are you clicking "Force Shutdown" on the
overlay that comes up? It might say something like "Force all Applications to
Close" or something similar. Some people like to do that to "speed up" the
shutdown process.

Nothing pops up afterward :) My pc just shuts down. So, probably a force by
default?

No, Windows shouldn't force by default. My guess is that ShareX (or ShareXmod)
takes the shutdown signal poorly, and kills its process rather than closing
gracefully, which'd trigger the saving of the configuration files. That's not
correct behavior.

@mcored, care to weigh in?

Uninstall ShareXmod and try installing ShareX 8.1 which is a merge of current
ShareXmod features and ShareX:

Well, I gave it a try. But not to test this specific issue. I probably won't
use ShareX as the main feature I want doesn't work: Capture Controls.

I'd wait for ShareXmod with the 8.1 changes merged, then. However, you can also
report any ShareX bugs in the ShareX issue tracker:
https://code.google.com/p/sharex/issues/

http://www.flickr.com/photos/101313246@N07/9686805505/sizes/o have a look at
that checkBox.

As mopquill said in another issue page, ShareXmod will continue sine die to
trial new features to be ultimately merged back to ShareX. Right now, all of
the major features are merged to ShareX in the past month. Refer to:
https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/107831265244947724956

If you are missing any minor features, you are welcome to create an issue for
each feature so that we can focus our priorities in ShareX.

Yup, I saw that. But I said 'it doesn't work', not 'it doesn't exist'. Simply
clicking on a control doesn't select it and I also get no selection region when
hovering over the control.

But this is beyond the issue of this topic.
