For a couple months I've been considering a way to help newbros to MWO find units that best fit their playstyle, making it even easier for units to screen candidates for potential gameplay styles. Not having come up with something of my own, I looked to a game I used to play quite a bit: Eve Online.
In Eve, you can go to a "Corporations" tab and select gameplay styles you are looking for. CEO's of Corporations, upon creating their Corporation, will generally check boxes indicating playstyle of the Corp. So, when the newbro checks the boxes of what he's looking for, it will show them a list of Corporations matching what they are looking for, at which point they send an in-game application to one of them.
I think that this could be a very helpful tool to get more people that are new to the game into units if that is what they are looking for. Currently, unit recruitment is left to the forums and actual unit standalone websites. Cutting out the Forums recruitment search could lead to less stress on a pilot trying to find a unit they fit with. So it would be like this:
1) Unit leaders create a unit bio (what the unit is, what theyre looking for, what they do, who the recruitment officers are, pretty much whatever the unit leader wants to say). As part of the bio, certain gameplay aspects would be included: Quickplay, Faction Play, Meta, RP, Casual. Im sure there are others , and wold love to see the community come up with others on this thread they think should be included. 2) The Unit Finder, upon a unit saving its bio, will automatically include unit name and bio in the Unit Finder. 3) Player goes into Unit Finder, checks the boxes concerning play styles, hits "search". 4) List of units comes up. New pilot chooses one, and send in an application to join.
BAM. Easy. I know that when I was a newbro, it took me a long time to find a unit that was a good fit for me, and I believe that this will streamline the recruiting process for units, and make MWO that much more appealing to brand new players.
