Describe the issue

IMG_20221025_220030 So, I changed my PS2 from PAL to NTSC, but I accidentally deleted the nvm.bin file, then I managed to recover the file when I try to restore it by renaming the file so that it reads mechapwn the results are like the picture.and now I can't change it back to SCPH-90004 or to another model.

Please provide nvm bin file and sticker photo

What does it mean? sorry i'm newbie here

AKuHAK commented 2 years ago

Nvm bin (nvm.bin or nvm_0.00_4...bin) should be on your usb flash drive. Connect it to your device, create zip arhgive and drap and drop it here. Sticker should be on your ps2, this is where your console model, serial, barcode number and other data is written. Take a photo of it with your nobile phone and drag and drop here, in the comments.

IMG_20221026_152031crop nvm_0.00_15366401.zip this is the nvm.bin and the photo sticker. I also have 2 other nvm.bin from recovery, is that needed too? and sorry for replying late because I was in school earlier

Fellvrnc commented 2 years ago

by the way, does this problem also affect the ps2 hardware? because my cooling fan can't turn on after experiencing this problem

AKuHAK commented 2 years ago

nvm_recover.zip here is another nvm.bin, thank you also for helping

Your nvram file is a complete mess nvm_restore.zip place this nvm.bin into usb drive and restore with the mechapwn 2.0 (currently mechapwn 3.0 does not have rescue option)

As mechapwn 2.0 known to be incompatible with your usb drive, I kindly advice to find another usb drive for this. Or at least perform disk check on this usb.

AKuHAK commented 2 years ago

it affects laser calibration, so you can loose ability to properly read disks. As for fan it is uknown if nvram has an option for controlling it, but it can be.

AKuHAK commented 2 years ago

By the way, serial number on your sticker doesnt match serial number inside nvram. Either nvram were replaced with something from another console, or maybe sticker were replaced (or shell).

IMG_20221027_150814.jpg thank you very very very much for helping me but how do I restore it, every time I enter mechapwn 2.0 it is asked to keep or create a new nvm.bin, I select keep, then press O to exploit, then remove the power chord, when entering mechapwn again, remove the power cord still appears after pressing O for exploit

it seems because I changed the PAL version to NTSC then I changed it back to PAL but didn't use nvm.bin because it was deleted at that time and I haven't recovered

AKuHAK commented 2 years ago

@SiJonnn dont play with new mechapwn until you restore nvram backup with old version. On the second stage dont choose install exploit, but choose restore backup.

Do you mean that you cannot pass 1st stage and always get this screen? Do you have modchip?

Fellvrnc commented 2 years ago

yes

Fellvrnc commented 2 years ago

Do you have modchip?

yes, my ps2 is using modbo 5. is it because of the modchip?

AKuHAK commented 2 years ago

Yes, its definetly due to modchip.

Yes, its definetly due to modchip.

So, isn't there any other way to restore it? I tried to disable the modchip but I can't get to ulaunch + my ps2 can't use CD

Fellvrnc commented 2 years ago

sorry for bothering you @AKuHAK, but is it possible to modify mecha pwn so that the restore menu can appear on the 1st stage? so you can restore it directly without being stuck on the "unplug power cord" screen

It is not possible, because NVRAM is partially locked in a normal state. It is fully unlocked only after 1st mechapwn stage. I don't know why you can't pass 1st stage, it is quite strange. You should try to disable your modchip. If it still doesn't help, make ps2ident dumps before and after mechapwn.

Also are you sure that you disable electricity completely from PS2? The red light should disappear before you can plug it in again back.

I think I found the problem, when the mecha pwn asks to unplug the power cord, when I restart the menu to select opl, launch, sms it becomes an exclamation mark, like an error, then I restarted and it just returned to normal.

so tomorrow I will try to install fmcb cross region, so I can load launch without errors, and I hope this method works

okay, it turns out I'm still stuck in the first stage, I'm done with this ps2. and also thank you very very very much @AKuHAK for helping me

disable modchip not working

Also are you sure that you disable electricity completely from PS2?

I'm pretty sure there's no electricity anymore

If it still doesn't help, make ps2ident dumps before and after mechapwn.

okay, i found 1 other nvm.bin file, and I've also dumped the ps2ident result, maybe you can check it, thank you

nvm_restore.zip\nplace this nvm.bin into usb drive and restore with the mechapwn 2.0

According to the provided data, this step failed for you. Do you have another usb flash drive? Please repeat nvram backup restore with another usb. Mechapwn 2.0 is a bit buggy with some usb drives.

If you have no other usb, you should wait until I code similar option in 3.0, 3.0 has better support for usb drives, so it should have better compatibility.

I've tried with 2 different external hard drives and the 2 different flash drives and still can't, I'll wait for mechapwn 3.0, and hopefully it will work if using 3.0

Fellvrnc commented 1 year ago

by the way, is the battery in the ps2 needed to save the progress of the mechapwn? like saving the ps2's time progress to keep it running when the console isn't on?

Mechapwn dev build now has rescue option, you can try with it.
