Describe the issue

Forgive me if this has been answered in plan text somewhere. There's a good chance I've missed it.

Currently in a fight with a White NTSC-J Machine I just got my hands on. Mechapwn seems to go through and recognizes the device correctly and gives all accurate information, even labeling it's shell color correctly. However, after selecting "Change Region" I'm only given Retail-Dex as an option followed by hitting a Patch Menu asking to

Keep Current Patch Restore Factory Defaults Install Force Unlock

Selecting Keep Patch naturally tells me it's complete and to enjoy.

Where it gets even weirder is when given any legit NTSC-U Ps1disk after keeping the patch, Ridge Racer 4, Time Crisis, Point Blank 2 etc it can recognize that it is a Ps1 disk, play music from said disk, but cannot launch them. It just hangs on a black screen forever. (I actually tested it by leaving for lunch for an hour and returned to a still black screen) It never states that it cannot read it due to region lock. Just endless void.

Even while typing this up I attempted to... Restore for a clean slate (successfully) Create a new Multi install of FMCB 1.966 on a second fresh Memory card. Mechapwn it once more. Same result.

Lens and drive works, watched SF Alpha The movie on it while reading up on this issue. Early Ps2 Disks, regardless of Region do work. Tested with Silent Scope (U) and Ridge Racer 5(J) I have tried 2 Dual Shock 2 controllers for giggles as well.

Ultimately, it's no big deal as I'm still going to HDD mod the heck out of it so region will not matter but, I figured it'd be worth reporting and maybe picking a brain or two with. (Those Guncon games will have to stay on the PS1 for now~)

Console Color: Ceramic White

"CW" is Ceramic White. Yes. However....

Console Color: White The listed information is exactly as shown on the mechapwn information screen. PXL_20240630_211259620 MP

Regardless. As an update. Device works perfectly for all regions of Ps2 disk. Can play NTSC-J Ps1 Disks Still won't play NTSC-U Ps1 Disks

Again, NBD, just odd.

@Retr0Nomad unfortunately this is expected behaviour. There is no way to directly launch ps1 games out of region on Japanese and European FAT ps2. You need to do this via some sort of swap disk.

Gotcha! I figured it was something silly like this preventing it from being a TOTALLY compatible machine.

Like I've said, NBD. The PS1 remains the Time Crisis/ Point Blank machine lol
