The PlayStation 2 was not aimed to change the DVD region, so there are no checks for it. BTW you can check Release Candidate - it has more DVD regions, that you can test, and changing DVD regions will not affect PS2 and PS1 titles. Answering your question: no, you have no limits in region change.
So I have done an experiment where I changed my SCPH-90000's region from the stock NTSC-J to NTSC-U, and when I put in a Region 1 DVD after changing the region, it played as if I had an actual SCPH-90001 (NTSC-U) console.
However, computer DVD drives have a limit of four region changes of the drive's entire lifespan. Does the SCPH-9000X have this same limitation with DVD movies (the situation with PS2 games and FreeDVDBoot are diffrerent, because real PS2 games don't use the DVD player, and FreeDVDBoot is region-free)?
