Early on in development all dialogs were scanned for any references to Luigi, and made them non-gendered player based, these changes have not been undone since the addition of the Luigi model.
The pluralization and player name mentioning (rather than Luigi) can remain, but other changes ("your brother" -> "THE Mario", for example) should be reverted.
Keep Luigi coloring in mind for multiplayer. ("Who put out my candles, you Mr. Lime-Green?!" won't work, as the first player to join may not be present.)
