Since posting this issue i have discovered more information which may contribute to getting it resolved. I have discovered that if I play the movies remotely (from outside of my local network) they seem to play as expected. So somehow the issue seems to be related to how the movies are being accessed.
I have more information on this issue. It appears that the FFMPEG process consistently exits after a few seconds if I use Internet Explorer from inside my local network as well. If I use Chrome or Firefox, the FFMPEG process plays as expected. So the common variables to reproduce this issue are:
This issue is still very present...
Here is someone else describing essentially the same behavior. http://mediabrowser3.com/community/index.php?/topic/4009-video-freezes-after-x-amount-of-seconds/
At least one person also mentions the issue in the App store reviews... http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/store/app/media-browser/f4971ed9-f651-4bf6-84bb-94fd98613b86
Despite having paid for this app, I have literally hundreds of movies that I can still only look at the covers of on my phone.
Can you please confirm if this is still an issue?
When playing movies, the movies load and begin playing from the server but the FFMPEG process exits after a few seconds. These same movies play fine from other clients including MediaBrowser Classic and the web-browser based player. This issue has been present since the initial release of the Windows Phone 8 application.
