[Android] Bug - LGv20 Second Screen + Chromecast, Music stops #3426

This one is pretty out there.

I have an LG v20, and it has a really nice second screen I can use while the main screen is off (this saves SOOOOO much battery power).

Now, the second has the ability to interface with Media Apps playing on the phone, such as Emby and other such things.

I connect my phone to a Chromecast Video, same Wifi network. Play an album on the Emby server.

Close my lid, so the second screen shows, swipe to the Media touch controls. Tell it to play the Next album.

BAM the music stops playing on the Chromecast, and my phone no longer recognises a Media App is "playing".

Does this happen when I'm not connected to a Chromecast? Nope! When it is just playing music on the phone, and I do the same instruction on the second screen, it plays the next song just like one would expect.

How odd. I don't think this functionality is specific to my phone, as the API I think is a generic Android one for other similar things... but I don't know Android that well.

This issue may be a focus thing. When I switch away to another app, so both screens are active, but use the second small screen to tell it to change song (with Chromecast), the Music stops again.

Is this still an issue?

BloodyIron commented 5 years ago

@LukePulverenti I'm going to have to retest and get you results, plus the results I promised you for the 4K stuff, heh. Sorry it's taking so long! XD

BloodyIron commented 5 years ago

@LukePulverenti Okay so the LG v20 second screen control bug described above is gone, but there's two new bugs.

So, to be clear. When I connect my phone to my chromecast (video or audio), tell it to play, it plays and I can use the back/forward buttons on my second screen, and it doesn't "crash" or stop thinking a Media Player is playing. So that particular detail seems to be working now.

As for the new bugs.

  1. Pause/Play doesn't seem to work on the LG v20 second screen when connected to the Chromecast and I'm playing music. This DOES work when I'm not connected to the Chromecast. Unsure what's going on here.

  2. When I (dis)connect to/from the Chromecast (video/audio), while music is playing, I stop being able to control the music, and this is on the LG v20 screen and I think the controls in the main app too. This seems to be something specific to connecting/disconnecting to/from the chromecast devices. When I connect the music does transition to the device and keep playing, I just can't interact with it or control it.

Is this still an issue with the latest app update?

BloodyIron commented 5 years ago

Just tested, and I don't think I've seen improvement, and seeing a possible new issue.

So, to clarify, I'm connecting to my Toshiba TV with the built-in Chromecast that I've mentioned elsewhere. As I like the idea of playing Music on my TV sometimes.

So, here's the current testing results.

  1. I start playing music on my phone. Connect to Chromecast on TV (while Music is playing). Music transitions to TV, continues playing. I cannot pause the Music with the 2nd screen buttons, but I can skip back/forward song tracks.

  2. I am connected to the TV via Chromecast, Music is playing. I disconnect from Chromecast, Music immediately stops playing, and does not transition to my phone, and my phone acts like I'm not playing anything at all. This happens whether I start Music first on the TV, or first on Phone then to TV then disconnect. It seems to drop every time now.

That's what I'm seeing in my testing today.

Hi, are you still seeing this on version 3.0.87+ of the app?

LukePulverenti commented 4 years ago

Were you able to try this?

BloodyIron commented 4 years ago

Ooof I'll retest this today, sorry about that.

BloodyIron commented 4 years ago

Okay, new scenario cropped up

  1. Play music on phone (Emby Android app)
  2. Tell it to connect to chromecast
  3. Flip lid shut so screen turns off
  4. Emby Chromecast app launches on TV
  5. Music still just plays on phone

Gonna retest for the earlier scenarios too, but this is a weird one lol. TV still says "ready to cast", but music playing on phone XD

BloodyIron commented 4 years ago

I'm on 3.0.87 btw

And yeah... playing music on phone, can't get it to transition to Chromecast on TV now at all, even with screen on the whole time. :(

So new transition issues now. D:

Are you still able to reproduce the music stopping on Chromecast? I cannot.
