Extender fixes, performance and stability #273

Hi Eric, this is now updated with the changed from the base fork so is now able to merge.

Sorry, changes on the server are going to force me to push an update to MBC so I'm going to have to wait on this again. Hopefully, things will still merge after but I'll let you know. Thanks.
