MacOS no video

There is no video on MacOS. Only sound. There are many console messages during playback:

Hi,

It looks like you have a few issues:

• First I assume you use the opengl RHI backend (setting QSG_RHI_BACKEND) because the opengl output obviously don't work with Metal which is the default backend

• The opengl output wasn't shipped on OSX, I made MR on VLC to fix this, you can try it there https://code.videolan.org/videolan/vlc/-/merge_requests/2061

• In OpenGLVideoStream::setup the function QOpenGLContext::supportsThreadedOpenGL seems to return false even with Qt::AA_DontCheckOpenGLContextThreadAffinity set in the main, this cause the setup function to fail, so the video wont be played. Ignoring this check seems to work fine on machine I tested. On VLC side, we use a different gl context than the one used by Qt to draw, and we mainly need shared context feature to be able to share textures between VLC and your application. but be wary of this.

• I pulled the last build from https://artifacts.videolan.org/vlc/nightly-macos-arm64/20220613-0410/.
• Commented QOpenGLContext::supportsThreadedOpenGL check in OpenGLVideoStream.
• Build QuickVLC based on the last vlc

But I still have no video issue. Correct me if I missed something. Thanks in advance.

I haven't been able to reproduce your issue so far, I tested with these configurations

• macbook pro 2017 x86 / OSX Montery 12.4 / Qt 6.3.1 / macosx12.3sdk / vlc compiled from source
• macbook pro 2020 x86 / OSX Montery 12.4 / Qt 6.3.1 / macosx12.3sdk / vlc-sdk from x86_64 nightly
• macbook pro 20201 arm M1 / OSX Montery 12.4 / Qt 6.3.1 / macosx12.3sdk / vlc-sdk from arm64 nightly

I tested with different kind of medias, ones that uses VideoToolbox (accelerated hw) and ones that uses software decoder (a mpgv like in your sample logs)

Here is my compilation process:

• download vlc sdk or compile vlc from source
  • sdk is installed in /Users/pierre/install
  • fix the prefix path in /Users/pierre/install/lib/pkgconfig/libvlc.pc to point to /Users/pierre/install
• apply this patch to use pkg-config instead of cmake to find libvlc dependency. this shouldn't change much the final result, I find it easier to deal with, as VLC isn't installed system-wide
• configure the project using

  mkdir build
  cd build
  cmake .. -DCMAKE_PREFIX_PATH="/Users/pierre/install;/Users/pierre/Qt/6.3.1/macos/" -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=Debug -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=/Users/pierre/install

• build and install (make && make install)
• the same is done for QuickVLC-example

before starting the executable, I setup these environment variables

from the error log messages, it reports that there was an opengl error at some point (that's what cause the assertion), but the glGetError can't really tell where the error originated. maybe you're making some "illegal" operations with the opengl context of VLC, and it remains silent up to this point.

Hi, I found the root of the issue. We use WebEngine in our project. Try to add these lines to CMakeLists.txt: find_package(Qt6 COMPONENTS WebEngineCore WebEngineWidgets WebEngineQuick REQUIRED) And Qt6::WebEngineQuick Qt6::WebEngineCore Qt6::WebEngineWidgets in target_link_libraries.

Hi,

from what I understand QtWebEngine changes the default OpenGL format when the application starts (see here) this resulted in the use of an incompatible opengl format.

After a lot of tinkering I managed to find that changing the configuration like this before creating the QApplication worked for me

format.setProfile(QSurfaceFormat::CompatibilityProfile);
