Stardust Speedway Zone Act 2 Freezing After Boss #18

Open MegaBlue92 opened 1 year ago

After beating the second Metal Sonic phase and when I get the capsule and complete the level, it just freezes at the passed act screen with the little rolling Sonic ball on the corner. I did it twice and the same thing happened. I am running the game using 240p is anyone else getting this error? I waited for like 5-8 minutes before just powering off the wii. I'm using the new 4.0 release, I was able to get passed this on the 2.0 release.

I'll have a look at it.

Since this appears to be an issue that only happens on a saved game, could you please send your SaveData.bin? That would help a lot for testing.

How do I send through github I am new to this platform. I can send it to your email address.

You can send it on https://wetransfer.com/ and post the link here.

I can't seem to replicate this error on Dolphin in 480p mode (though that shouldn't be because of that. Could you test if disabling the 240p mode results in it not freezing?

Ok, so I think I know what the problem is. I was using a GC to classic controller adapter through the GC port and a classic controller to Genesis controller adapter that froze the game. I tried using just a regular GameCube controller, that also froze the game. Lastly I used just a wiimote and it continued as normal. To conclude, it has to do something with the GameCube controller. Can't remember what I used when I played through it a month ago but I do know I was able to get passed that part (I think I was most likely using my adapters through the gamecube port).

EDIT: I also just tested it with "runin240p=n " (the normal 480i setting) with the GameCube controller and it still freezes at that part.

UPDATE: Even with the wiimote now I'm still getting softlocked at the act clear still. Guess I just got lucky that one time it did load the cutscene into the next act. I did turn it off before it loaded hydrocity because I wanted to see if it would work again. I now have no idea what's going on I even tried deleted my save and starting clean and that didn't work. My last guess is maybe it might be my settings.ini I copied it from my Android. Can you share your settings.ini

MegaBlue92 commented 1 year ago

After further investigation, I found that deleting the settings.ini file after it softlocked and then running the game in which it creates a new one, let me proceed into the next stage. However, when i pressed the home button on the wiimote during the cutscene after the Metal Sonic boss, it crashed the game with the attached error message. After I crashed it and turned the wii off, I enabled the 240p mode in the settings, ran the game and beat the the boss again and it softlocked again. After that I deleted settings.ini, ran the game, and beat the boss again it loaded the cutscene again this time I let it load the next stage. I don't know if that error message has something to do with the softlock or the 240p but this is the solution I found to get passed that part. I know the message is a bit blurry but maybe if you can press home when you get to that part maybe you can see it also. I'm using real wii hardware, I have no idea how dolphin works but you should get the message. 20221128_025436_HDR

However, when i pressed the home button on the wiimote during the cutscene after the Metal Sonic boss, it crashed the game with the attached error message.

This is "expected", pressing the Home button just randomly crashes in some parts of the game (#7). I've yet to fix that bug, but it isn't related to your issue.

After I crashed it and turned the wii off, I enabled the 240p mode in the settings, ran the game and beat the the boss again and it softlocked again.

So this looks like an issue that only happens on 240p after all, but it still seems weird to me since that shouldn't really affect gameplay. There might be a more serious bug hidden underneath.

The tests you've done will help a lot for debugging, so thanks a lot!

Actually it did happen when 240p mode was turned off. A couple of times when I didn't delete the settings.ini(I played through it alot with many different combinations). I look forward to seeing what you can do and testing it out.
