Thumbnails cannot be disabled #64

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Hover a folder with thumbnailed images
2. See screenspace on a netbook utterly wasted displaying four giant
thumbnails
3. Go to preferences and see no option to disable thumbnails

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expect the option to disable a change in behavior as drastic as
displaying 128x128 thumbnails in a menu. They make the applet essentially
unusable for me, both by slowing down display of folders to a crawl, and
forcing almost ten screens of slow 'edge scrolling' to get to the bottom
of a folder that used to fit on screen with no scrolling at all.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
  0.6.3, on Ubuntu 9.04, 32 bit

Please provide any additional information below.

Fair enough. I'll make it optional.

I disagree with thumbnails being slower than icons to load though...

Done in svn. Will make a release soon...

The display speed may be an edge case; this machine has a pretty marginal
graphics
accelerator, with equally marginal drivers, and I torture it by setting
metacity to
compositing. It doesn't like displaying menus generally, and it's slower the
more
pixels they cover it seems. I wouldn't worry about that aspect too much,
apologies
for not pointing that out.

Thanks for the option though, it's very much appreciated.
