Adding the Applet to gnome panel on Ubuntu 11.04 classic freezes gnome #91

I use Ubuntu 11.04 with classic gnome desktop. So the
gnome-menu-file-browser-applet should work finde. On my Ubuntu 10.10 it
compiled nicely, so the steps I do are right. But on 11.04 the whole gnome
freezes, when I add the applet to the panel

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Build the applet, log off and on, add the applet to a gnome panel

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The applet to be loaded, it is not loaded. System freezes (it's even hard to
get on tty1, as it's so busy)

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
0.6.7 on Ubuntu 11.04 classic 64-bit

I'm re-writing it completely. I should be able to make it work under Gnome 2
and 3.
