Make Menge compile with clang under Mac OSX

I'm going to see if I can get this to become recursive. I went over the PR and found a number of issues. Some prevented building in linux and windows and some were largely cosmetic. I've created a pull request into your OSX branch with the requisite changes. Please confirm it still works for OSX.
