The conditions to gain coins are as follows:
Players gain 1 coin each time the gods are appeased.
Players gain 1 coin if The Doctor Dances is triggered.
Players gain 3 coins when a Bowser's challenge is completed.
Players who die of old age give all other players 10 coins.
