Update to allow cached extensions to be loaded #197

Fixes #151

Note: tested with development and master branch. Opening a PR to master as there are other fixes in progress on development.

Hi @pgleeson thanks for this! The color fix (see #198) is now deployed, should be the last fix we need before the release. I guess we can merge this on development and then release next week
