There are some prior arts and related projects to health heat map. It is probably a good thing like a literature review to document them.

• Centre for Global Health Research India Health Map - uses cartodb on the backend, have curated datasets from SRS, DLHS, and individual studies.
• Brookings India Health Monitor - custom built in javascript with CSV files. Source
• AutonLab T-Cube - a data format for time series data, and query tools (rather old).

Multidimensional Databases and Data Warehousing is a book that summarizes the field of multdimensional data modeling and as a set of software resources introduces a few projects:

• Kettle by Pentaho - Extract-Transform-Load tool

• Talend - Talend Open Studio is an open source subset of their offerings.

• Mondrian which is part of Pentaho is listed as an OLAP database server.
