Cartridge and Disk Stability Issues #11

Open argentini opened 3 years ago

argentini commented 3 years ago

For the longest time (through the latest release) loading cartridge and disk images locks up the core. Loading a cartridge and disk image at once doesn't work. Booting a cartridge (like Basic XE) and mounting a disk freezes keyboard input. Also, disk and cartridge selections are not maintained when resetting the Atari (in the core, not the MiSTER reset features).

Are these various disk and cartridge image mounting and usage issues known at this point? I thought the MIST project had a newer, better core. If true, can this be ported to MiSTER? I learned coding on an Atari 400 so I'm anxious to see these types of issues resolved. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Newer is not exactly better. Some fixes and tweaks may not related to MiSTer. Tell me what exactly is better besides it has some updates. Reset of core (ctrl-alt-alt) and warm reset (F10) of Atari - are 2 different things. Warm reset doesn't eject neither cart nor disk. I never had any problems such as lock up or non-working keyboard.

ok, after code revise and refresh my memory i can tell that currently it's not possible to use cart and disk at the same time. It's actually tuned for games and they are either on cart or disk, not both. It's not like an issue.. It's just not made for such scenario.

P.S.: it seems i can make both cart and disk work at the same time

Thanks. Understood on the gaming comment. I learned programming on the Atari platform so I was looking forward to doing that again. And unfortunately given the Atari memory and storage limitations I would typically use both cartridge and disk if possible (e.g. Basic XE cart and DOS on disk). I also understand that newer is not always better. I was under the impression that the MiST port was more mature and had worked through issues like these. Any fixes or advances for this core would be greatly appreciated. But thank you so much for your work on so many MiSTER cores!

MiST and MiSTer aren't factories where some robots are doing the job. You are always can move to MiST if it suits your better. This is the hobby project.

I think you misunderstand what I wrote. I thought that the Atari core (on MiST) was more mature. That's why I had suggested it as a possible solution. I did not mean that the MiST platform was more mature. I love the MiSTER. And I really appreciate all you have done to help the MiSTER project and community. Thank you!
