These test roms from @maxim-zhao work for the sound in the most recent megadrive core by @nukeykt that @sorgelig is porting.

The visual effect in the youtube video doesn't appear to work though, but this is essentially a megadrive core in SMS mode, so maybe the timing with the "abuse" of the VDP is different from a regular SMS.

Note that the video linked above is line-accurate but the palette is being changed multiple times per line, Emulicious gives a good representation of the actual result. On a real SMS, you get a great deal of VDP interference with the audio. Finally, I think those test ROMs have a bug causing them to only use 1/3 of the possible amplitude, in case that causes any confusion. I ought to remake them with the bug fixed.
