Tape input support doesn't work #9

VIC20:

I think the audio-in support does not work yet. Normally (e.g. with the C16 Core), the Core recognises when an audio signal is present ("searching" ...). With the VIC20, after "LOAD" it always says "PRESS PLAY ON TAPE". I have tried the whole thing with an old boombox with max. volume on headphones out.

With the Spectrum Core I can hear the audio signal. So my input source seems to be ok.

Maybe my tapes are too old or there is a problem with the tape head. 30 years ago I had a lot of problems with tape heads of Commodore VIC-20 datasettes. Maybe this could be an issue too? What I couldn't check: A validated Tape-Wave/MP3 File.

I can confirm External Tape input isn't working. I tried loading a Tape in MP3 format, and it never loads; it just stays on the "PRESS PLAY ON TAPE" message.

i need test environment. Which app do you use to play the tape? Is there an android or windows app to play?

Does C16 external tape input work?

NML32 commented 3 years ago

@sorgelig I use my iPhone to play the MP3 or WAV files from my Dropbox app. If I can find wav or mp3 for C16 Plus/4 I'll test that as well.

@sorgelig I tried loading a C64 and Vic20 WAV and MP3 file on the Plus/4 and C16 core. Even though it won't load it did get past the "Press Play on Tape" screen and went to a purple screen. I guess this is a good sign that it can hear the audio.

try this build: VIC20.zip

NML32 commented 3 years ago

That version works. I was able to load Bewiched.mp3.

Yes, thanks... it works!
