Squad leader request to commander for artillery doesn't work #20

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Unless you become cmmander and order a strike, bots no longer use commander
artillery. A clear sign is that, it would have been used as a final defense of
any base being capped by enemies, players out of range of any other form of
attack eg. when off the navmesh area and still visible.

It has been a problem since Battlefield moved to 1.5 from 1.41 patch for all
its mods including vanilla. Is it hard-coded? Or can we solve that issue in FH2?

Been wondering this myself. EA may have broken it, but if it's broke then why
not fix it ?

For the moment SP/Coop players can run a 1.41 installation. I don't think this
is easy to fix without help from EA, there are probably other far more high
priority issues. Closing issue.

Reopened this issue because this was originally badly titles and gave the
impression that commander artillery is totally inoperative. In fact as far as I
know at the moment the AI commander DOES send in the usual artillery strike
(especially if you camp). It the REQUEST from the squad leader that does not
work and this may be simpler to implement than previously thought. So I'll
leave this open ATM, I can always close it again.

Commander AI does NOT send in artillery. The link between arty and AI is
generally broken from BF 1.5

If you recall, the surest use of commander arty was when you cap a flag. Unless
he is out of it, expect incoming. e

That is no loner the case. Also, try standing in a belfry and sniping people.
That was also an automatic cause for artillery, or standing out of bot-navmesh
and firing in at them.

You can only issue artillery order as a human commander.

OK, I could be seeing mortar fire. I need to see a youtube vid of MP commander
arty.

Python can be used to trigger events so that can be used t give the squad
commander arty with a timer on it set to the same restriction as the commander
has - we're only looking for the illusion here of any AI commander actually
authorising it.

if it isn't hard-coded, perhaps there is a possibility of fixing this outright

After all, the ratios were once broken preventing the ratio scale from working
correctly, but this has been fixed now. Perhaps we can explore what broke it
and see if we can't reverse that.

Commander arty appears in the training video.

It uses the same effect as the howitzers, but comes from a higher elevation
similar to mortar and in quick succession. The sound effects for the incoming
arty is also a bit different. On crete and FoT however, it is limited to a
similar barrage but with mortar.

bot-controlled mortar tends to be more deliberate in terms of which unit
(usually a vehicle) it is firing at and is slower firing.
