Similar to you-should-use, I'd really use a plugin that would remind you of best practices. You could set this plugin to show a message in color8 from .Xresources on the right side of the command line to show a best practicy command. for instance, I could set:

% git branch |                                                                                                                                    ysu git checkout -b

this wouldn't fire after command execution in you-should-use fashion because you can have true intentions of using the command you typed.
