Add an easily accessible timer that can easily be used while looking at (or following) a recipe

MichielProost commented 4 years ago

I don't really like the idea. I don't know anyone who uses a timer when cooking a new recipe. New suggestion: Small timers at the steps of the recipe. E.g. potatoes need to cook 5 minutes. You can start the timer at that specific step and continue to look at other steps.

Nuytemans-Dieter commented 3 years ago

Disagreed. A seperate timer for each step would be a messy UI. One global timer for the whole recipe seems better. The user can set the timer to any time and a popup will apear with sound when the timer runs out.

I personally still think it's a useless option. Timers are everywhere. Whether it is on the oven or your induction plate. I think it's definitely interesting to explore this in a poll.

Nuytemans-Dieter commented 3 years ago

Earlier you stated you wanted a timer at each step? I don't think a poll is required. It would be easier than switching apps (eg. boiling eggs generally does not have an existing solution to time without using apps or seperate devices).

But if you're not fond of this idea, I'll let it be for now.

"Earlier you stated you wanted a timer at each step?" ~ Correct. I think a global timer would be cumbersome. Having a preset timer at each step (that requires it) would be better. Just press on the preset timer. An x amount of time later a small "beep" can be heard.

But that's only if we implement the timer functionality. I don't think we need to.. A couple more arguments:

Ps. I'm going to ask this to a couple of friends. I suggest you to do the same. I can be wrong, but I don't think a lot of people use the timer on their smartphone while cooking.

A preset timer per step would make the UI bulky, and more work for the creator of a recipe. The 'global timer' is a handy to have feature and not too hard to implement, I don't see a single drawback of this feature so I am unsure why you think it is such a bad idea.

No need to ask others, won't implement if we can't agree on this. As you are fighting against this feature, I'll close this issue for now.

After a private conversation, the decision was made to implement this in some form in a later release.
