Attempted to update WAC through the browser. It failed and never came back to life. When trying to run the upgrade from command line got error about no server role for WAC.

Attempted to reinstall from scratch using same msi I originally installed with before update attempt and received the following error

"Product: Windows Admin Center -- 1: Unhandled Exception: System.IO.IOException The file 'C:\ClusterStorage\UtilStor\WAC\Server Management Experience\modules\msft.sme.dev-guide\assets\generated\documentation\directives\TooltipDirective.html' already exists."

Deleted WAC Directory and ran again, got same error. Currently trying to reinstall 2110.

Hi Everyone, Just update got it fixed. So here is exactly what happened 1.) Attempted to update WAC through the web browser 2.) Gave it an hour and it never came back. WAC role was removed from the HA Cluster 3.) Tried to run upgrade from Command line, got error about WAC role missing 4.) Attempted to run from scratch with all install options. Got the fatal error 1603 5.) After talking with Rebecca and had some time to consider it looked at the PS script 6.) Noticed it actually installs WAC under c:\program files on each node, the Shared storage is only for data (I think) 7.) Once I noticed that went to each cluster node and Manually uinstalled WAC from each node. 8.) Re-ran install from scratch and it worked without fatal error this time.

Some more fun with this. I tried to update to 2110.2 after fixing it and now I get the same error on trying to upgrade. Since I have not really configured WAC I'm going to start over and try install 2110.2 from scratch.

Lastly, after uninstall from each node a full install from scratch of 2110.2 works. It only seems to error on upgrade.

That's great! I'm happy to hear that!

Thank you for sharing the steps - I hope they will assist anyone else facing the same issue.

We will still try to figure out why the upgrade is failing. Is it the same error that you're getting?

Mbeckler commented 2 years ago

Yes it seems to be the same error when attempting an upgrade. Thanks Matt
