WAC doesn't show some Windows Updates under the "Updates" Tool #98

Open sime3000 opened 2 years ago

sime3000 commented 2 years ago

Gateway Version: 2110

To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. In WAC console connect to a Windows 2019 Core server where any of the following Exchange hotfixes have been applied: KB5003435, KB5000871 and KB5001779, KB5007012
  2. Click on the Updates Tool
  3. Click on Update History
  4. Note that none of the hotfixes listed above are listed Updates History, I believe that this happens with hotfixes other than Exchange and other versions of the OS,

Expected behavior You would expect any hotifix that you installed to be visible here as it would be in the Control Panel on a system with a GUI. When it is not visible it makes system admin, planning, related security work, etc, unnecessarily difficult.

Screenshots & Additional context This was reported to Prasidh Arora in the WAC blog many months ago and he indicated that he submitted a bug report. Unfortunately he is not responsive to many months of requests for a status update. https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/windows-admin-center-blog/windows-admin-center-version-2110-is-now-generally-available/bc-p/2917511#M314

When is this scheduled to be fixed?

Hey! I'm Rebecca, PM on the WAC team - still experiencing this issue? Kind regards.

Hello Rebecca,

Firstly, thanks for your response. It appears that the rest of your colleagues have decided to ignore all questions and comments over on https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/windows-admin-center-blog/bg-p/Windows-Admin-Center-Blog. Not a good look and it doesn't bode well for the future of WAC. To answer your question. Yes, of course its still a problem, I haven't seen anything that looks like a fix for it. If you use WAC to look for installed updates on Windows Server Core 2019 for example, you will not find the ones I listed or KB5014261 which is a recent example from May 2022.
One selling feature of WAC is that you can use it to manage Core servers, but if WAC is not going to display an accurate picture of what is installed, or if it just floods the "Updates" object with irrelevant Windows Defender updates (bug #99) then I'm afraid its yet another reason for a "no sale" on WAC for many folks. To borrow a common phrase from Microsoft support "Have a great day!"
