SCOM Agent vs. MMS Agent #10928

Can you add a doc for integrating SCOM to Update Management? Need to show that the SCOM Agent has to be updated to the Microsoft Management Agent to get system hybrid runbook worker, and report to Log Analytics for full functionality in order to deploy updates. Otherwise, the SCOM agent works just fine for compliance reporting only.

@kylecweeks Thanks for the feedback. We document this information with the log analytics information https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/log-analytics/log-analytics-om-agents. We already define in our documentation that the MMA is required. What is it you are looking to have documented? That the old SCOM agent can be used for assessments only and MMA for full feature? Just trying to understand the ask, as it seems the information you are asking for is already in it's appropriate places.

Well, the documentation you linked is on how to link OpsMgr to a workspace, but has no guideline on any need to update the SCOM Agent to the MMA for certain functionality. Specifically, being able to deploy updates.

It would be nice to have a section linking back to appropriate documentation to onboard OpsMgr managed systems into Azure Update Management. As you mention, using the old SCOM agent through OpsMgr for assessment only, or the need to install the MMA agent in order to enable all functionality of this resource.

@kylecweeks I have created a backlog item to track this further to see about a scenario doc around this, for now I am going to submit a change to add a note that Operations Manager agents must be updated to the MMA to be fully manageable, and provide a link to a doc on how to update. Once the updates are in place they will auto close this issue. I will continue to track the overall scenario update with a workitem in my backlog but that will be a few sprints away.
