@GabrielKre , thank you for your query. We'll investigate this and get back to you shortly!

@GabrielKre , what do you refer as old topology view?

AFAIK, the new topology view is added as a separate option in the Monitor Insights via the banner at the top of the page or a button at the top of the page as below:

Hi @GabrielKre The new topology is replacing the old one. Can you please let us know what makes you prefer to use the old toplogy? Your feedback is important. Thank you!

@GitaraniSharma-MSFT for some customers this is basically a feature that you can open additionally. For others it is froced upon, there is no other way to view the Topolgy other than the "new version"...

@ChaitanyaNaykodi-MSFT Ive got a couple problems with it:

  1. The Azure Firewalls are not displayed. Just the subnet, not the resource.
  2. Its way too laggy and every single step i take there takes ages to load.
  3. The filtering option is way too annoying to scroll trough all the options and set it up. And you have to repeat it once you accidentally click on something that moves you to the resource page.
  4. The Export of it creates an svg file which is not nice to to display or handle in any kind of presentation. But to be honest, the most annoying part is that its being forced upon and I have to waste time explaining it to my customers and look for 3rd party tools to correct your "inventions"...

@GabrielKre , thank you for the update. I will discuss this with the Network Watcher Product Group team and get back to you as soon as I hear from them. In the meantime, could you try accessing the Azure portal with the below link and check if the old topology view shows up? https://portal.azure.com?nopreview=true

@GabrielKre , I discussed this issue with the Azure Network Watcher Product Group team and below are their inputs:

Thank you for sharing the feedback, we are working with the portal team to be able to allow the customers to switch to the classic (old) topology based on customer’s discretion.

For the problems you shared above, see the inline responses:

  1. The Azure Firewalls are not displayed. Just the subnet, not the resource. -> Azure Firewall was not supported in the old topology as well; however, we are adding it in the new topology experience and should be available to customers soon.
  2. It’s way too laggy and every single step takes ages to load. -> We are aware of this feedback and are testing the code optimization which will decrease the load time significantly, this is under testing currently and will be deployed soon.
  3. The filtering option is way too annoying to scroll through all the options and set it up. And you have to repeat it once you accidentally click on something that moves you to the resource page. -> The context for subscription, RG and location is retained incase the customer wants to transition from the resource page back to the topology. Could you share more details on this such as a session recording and HAR logs for further investigation on this issue.
  4. The Export of it creates a svg file which is not nice to display or handle in any kind of presentation. -> We are already working on this to allow users to download the topology is multiple formats, should be available soon.
  5. But to be honest, the most annoying part is that it’s being forced upon and I have to waste time explaining it to my customers and look for 3rd party tools to correct your "inventions". -> We acknowledge this feedback; we are rationalizing this feedback with the portal team and will add a functionality to allow users to switch back to the classic topology if needed.

I would also suggest you leave your feedback in the below forum requesting this feature. All the feedback you share in these forums will be monitored and reviewed by the Microsoft engineering teams responsible for building Azure. https://feedback.azure.com/d365community/forum/8ae9bf04-8326-ec11-b6e6-000d3a4f0789

For point 3, if interested you could share a screen recording and HAR logs in an email to us. Please send an email with subject line "ATTN gishar | How to disable new Network Watcher Topology view?" to AzCommunity[at]Microsoft[dot]com with the following details, I will follow-up with you.

@GitaraniSharma-MSFT thank you for your suggestions and fast answers. Compared to what I'm used to from the Microsoft Azure Team - this was mind blowing fast. However, sadly the Link https://portal.azure.com?nopreview=true still shows the new topology. I guess I'll just have to sit and wait until the improvements come trough...

GitaraniSharma-MSFT commented 1 year ago

My pleasure, @GabrielKre . Happy to help!

Just want to confirm if you will be sending the requested session recording and HAR logs for the issue#3?

GabrielKre commented 1 year ago

Where should i upload the HAR Logs and the Session recording?

GitaraniSharma-MSFT commented 1 year ago
