Migration of MongoDB to Azure CosmosDB online using DMS - Not Possible #117169

Open dhamodharanl opened 11 months ago

dhamodharanl commented 11 months ago
  1. DMS cannot use the latest version of MongoDB as a source to perform migration(both online/offline)
  2. source Mongo version should be from 3 to 4.4
  3. DMS cannot support replication if the mongodb version is less that what is supported/current(that is 5 or 6).

So ultimately Azure DMS is incapable of migrating MongoDB to Azure Cosmos MongoDB Online, may be inaccurate. This assertion might need reconsideration because Azure DMS (Data Migration Service) is equipped with capabilities that enable the migration of MongoDB databases to Azure Cosmos DB, including its MongoDB API. Therefore, it is important to reassess the claim and potentially revise it to accurately reflect the capabilities of Azure DMS in facilitating the migration from MongoDB to Azure Cosmos MongoDB Online.

Hi @shaktisingh-msft, DMS works with Mongo RU, but doesn't work with vCore. The document only mentions inability to use DMS with Mongo DB vCore
