Cannot install SDK using web platform installer

I tried to install the SDK on a new windows 10 machine today, and I get 503 errors in my web platform installer log. One of the urls which has an error is https://download-codeplex.sec.s-msft.com/Download?ProjectName=pytools&DownloadId=747396 which returns a server-side DNS error when I visit it manually. This is blocking me from using service fabric.

Thanks for your reply. I have seen a few things around that might indicate the release was withdrawn. Whether that is the case or not for the latest release I'm not sure, however I tried the past 3 releases from browsing through Web PI and they all resulted in the same error. For now I have managed to manually install the runtime then SDK from the last link you provided above. However, Web PI still remains in a broken state for Service Fabric from what I can tell.

Looks like there is something wrong with the WebPI XML feed you are getting. Al though it says the local cache is up to date, can you try and clean it? Get to that screen via the options button:

@MikkelHegn I tried to fix this for hours. I re-installed WebPI twice and I must have cleared the installer cache at least 10 times during the testing.

For VS2017, the tooling is part of VS and will be enabled with the Azure workload. For VS2015, the tooling extension links are in the release notes.

1) Take a machine with Visual studio 2017 and Windows 10 Enterprise on it. 2) Install Azure Cloud tools via Visual Studio installer. 3) Click "Install the Microsoft Azure Service Fabric SDK" from the getting started guide for service fabric here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/service-fabric/service-fabric-get-started 4) Run the exe that is downloaded to launch WebPI with newly recommended packages. 5) Because I'm using VS2017 I just need to install the Service Fabric SDK. So choose the option that is SDK only, not tools (that option is for VS2015). 6) After downloading and around the time pre-requesites are being installed, an error is shown and a link to the attached log is visible. The error says something along the lines of a third party dependency failing to be installed, so service fabric cannot be installed.

The Service Fabric team has been asked to look into what the error code means that is being provided from the installer. It looks like the runtime returned error code 1 when run from the Web PI installer even with admin rights. Chris and I are unsure what that means.

Haven't heard of any updates yet, but it seems like no one else has reported the same issue recently, so we might assume it was just my pc only? In that case I would be comfortable closing this given the lack of specific error logging making it difficult to diagnose further.

@JamiePed @Charles-Gagnon after uninstalling from control panel check your C drive for any left over folders of the SDK installation. If you find some, remove them manually then reattempt the install.

Before this issue got re-opened I reinstalled my operating system and all was fine - it probably wasn't able to properly gut all of the files since it was last removed/updated and that is likely why it kept falling over. I saw other people had success tearing down VMs and this was the closest option I had to that!

It was a bit aggressive to tear down the whole OS but got the job done 👍 Thanks for your time everyone!

Thanks for the update @JamiePed! Agree that rebuilding the OS is not ideal but at least it does get rid any of lingering files :)

Running PS as Admin would help you.

Go to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Service Fabric\bin\Fabric\Fabric.Code Find InstallFabric.ps1 open in text editor, remove empty lines between script lines, run it in PowerShell as Admin That will install runtime and You can install SDK from WebPI. This worked for me
