Request to update the list of machine types #15622

Closed DougPetrole closed 5 years ago

DougPetrole commented 5 years ago

Is this list still accurate? Can we please include all new machine types, including B series machines? https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/introducing-b-series-our-new-burstable-vm-size/

What about N Series as well?

Thanks for the feedback! I have assigned the issue to the content author to investigate further and update the document as appropriate.

tsarna commented 5 years ago

Also Lv2 and Basic A are missing

jonbeck7 commented 5 years ago

You can find all new VM Sizes that are generally available at https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-machines/windows/sizes

Basic A has been moved to "Previous Generation" VM sizes and is located here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-machines/windows/sizes-previous-gen

Lv2 has not yet released generally. When it does @joelpelley will update the documentation with all of the specs for that VM Family

edm-ms commented 5 years ago

Can we get B series added too?

mimckitt commented 5 years ago

@edm-ms will reopen.

@jonbeck7 can you take a look at the additional request?

DavidBerg-MSFT commented 5 years ago

B-Series documentation has been available for some time: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-machines/windows/sizes-general#b-series

edm-ms commented 5 years ago

The ACU rating for the B-series is empty along with vCore to pCore mapping.

tsellers-r7 commented 5 years ago

Could we please have an update on the progress of this effort? Being unable to compare the rough performance of B-series to other options is frustrating and, in my case, is preventing deployment of this class of VM.

Edit: To clarify, I'm interested in the ACU values for the B-Series. None of the previously provided links include this information.

joelpelley commented 5 years ago

Removed incorrect data

tsellers-r7 commented 5 years ago

CC @DavidBerg-MSFT
I don't see Aysha Keen's Github handle to CC correctly. The email version of this update didn't seem to notify either of them.

DavidBerg-MSFT commented 5 years ago

We don't publish B-Series ACU numbers because it is variable. It depends largely on whether calculations fit within the remaining CPU window, which is subject to timing of when the test is run.

We don't publish N-Series ACU numbers because they only represent the performance of the CPU, not the GPU, and anyone running on N-Series is generally going to be more interested in the GPU performance than the CPU performance.

tsellers-r7 commented 5 years ago

Thanks @DavidBerg-MSFT When you say "remaining CPU window" do you mean while instance still has credits? If so, the ACU value would definitely have value to me if it were provided in context of the baseline compute. For example, baseline for B1s being 10% of 100 ACU and, assuming sufficient credits, burstable up to 100 ACU.

In my particular case I'm trying to determine if, in the case of B1s, I would be getting 10% of an A0 (50 ACU) or of an A1 (100 ACU). In one case this could be an upgrade and in the other would effectively make it useless for our purposes.

Thanks again.

DavidBerg-MSFT commented 5 years ago

Yes. When a B VM has credits it's CPU performance should be comparable to a D-Series VM (~240). When it doesn't, it will be much less.

Does B VMs support nested Virtualization?

mimckitt commented 5 years ago

Only the V3 versions of VMs support nested virtualization

B-series does not support nested Virtualization.

Replied to the question. +Cynthia as well as most of the added alias are no-reply. @Cynthiamailto:cynthn@microsoft.com, can you help add me as author of B-series so I start getting these emails.
