BYOL in CSP #31971

Hi there Is there no way to use BYOL in CSP? Because through CSP you can buy Software Subscriptions (SQL Enterprise and Standard per 2 Cores for 1 or 3 years). Can't we use them in Azure? It's because of the note: BYOL images require an Enterprise Agreement with Software Assurance. They are not available as a part of the Azure Cloud Solution Partner (CSP) at this time. Best Regards Dave

@DaveZimmermann Thanks for the feedback! We are currently investigating and will update you shortly.

@DaveZimmermann based on my understanding, the limitation is still there if you are under a CSP subscription.

@MashaMSFT can you please confirm?

MashaMSFT commented 5 years ago

Hi @DaveZimmermann , thanks for contacting Microsoft! So, yes, and no. While CSP customers cannot deploy a BYOL image, they are able to utilize the Azure Hybrid Benefit (which is BYOL) by first deploying a pay-as-you-go image and then converting it to BYOL by enabling the Azure Hybrid Benefit. You can find more information about that here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-machines/windows/sql/virtual-machines-windows-sql-ahb • CSP customers can utilize the AHB benefit by first deploying a pay-as-you-go VM and then converting it to bring-your-own-license.

I hope that helps and please let me know if we can be of further assistance.

Thanks!

Hi @MicahMcKittrick-MSFT and @MashaMSFT Thanks for your answers! Thats fine for me now, but maybe this part should be rewritten: "BYOL images require an Enterprise Agreement with Software Assurance. They are not available as a part of the Azure Cloud Solution Partner (CSP) at this time." Or just add that you have to turn on the hybrid benefit and use the normal image from the marketplace. Best Regards Dave

Thanks @DaveZimmermann I will assign to @MashaMSFT to review and consider updating the doc.

Hi @DaveZimmermann , thanks for your feedback! You're right, some added clarity here would not hurt :) I've merged these changes and they'll be live tomorrow. Thanks again! We'll proceed with closing out this Git Issue in a few business days, if we don't hear back from you :)
