[Azure Maps] - Display map location names always in a single language #42308

Closed ghost closed 4 years ago

Hello again,

The default mode of Azure Maps displays names of places in the local language and script of the particular place (though in some places, this is always in English). For example, if you zoom out and look at the world map, I see places in Russia in Russian, places in the Middle East in Arabic and so on.

How do I force the map to always render the place names in a single language? I tried looking through the documentation but could not seem to find what I was looking for.

@sujayvsarma Thanks for the comment! Can you share the link/doc you're referring to?

@SadiqhAhmed-MSFT - I am asking a question. I did not find it in any doc!

The map defaults to natural ground truth (NGT) which shows localized names in areas as you zoom in and is pretty reversed when it comes to geopolitical sensitive areas on the map. You can change the map language using the language map option. You can find details on how to do this here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/azure-maps/how-to-use-map-control#localizing-the-map

All supported languages are listed here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/azure-maps/supported-languages

@rbrundritt There is a problem with the documentation. Initially, I assumed it was because of the language property. But then, using trial and error, it is the View property. The value set is case sensitive!!! If you set:

view: 'auto' // lower-case 'a'

Everything goes to shit. Apparently, it only accepts the value with an uppercase 'A':

view: 'Auto'

Could you have someone check and fix either the doc or the implementation?

Thanks.

And yes, the language thing closes my question, you may close the bug.

Will double check with team. Thought we had made it case insensitive in the web SDK.
