App passwords aren't working? #48179

Closed kumardeepakme closed 4 years ago

kumardeepakme commented 4 years ago

I have an office 365 subscription from Godaddy & I have activated MFA from this link https://account.activedirectory.windowsazure.com/UserManagement/MultifactorVerification.aspx.

The first time after setting additional security verification, the portal provided me with default app password Initial app passwordxxx and I used it & it was working - but I accidentally deleted this one and created a new app password here https://account.activedirectory.windowsazure.com/AppPasswords.aspx, from that point of time app passwords are not working at all.

I have Deleted all app passwords, enabled MFA, created new app passwords - but still no success.

@neeleshray-msft Hi, I wanted to activate Multi-factor Authentication for Office 365 to use it to send/receive emails from my website. So I followed this link to do so.

It worked pretty well the first time but then I deleted the Initial app passwordxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx & created a new one & from that point of time it's not working anymore.

I have re-enabled MFA 2-3 times & managed to get the default app-password - but still the same.

Please help me to resolve this issue.

@kumardeepakxyz We checked this and I would like to answer your queries one by one.

Since you are using Office 365 hosted mails from godaddy , it is not same as the Complete features that you get while you sign up for Office365 plans directly with Microsoft. I am not sure which plan you have from Office365 but it will surely have its limitation. Godaddy has restricted access to the portal.

The features of Office365 available to you within the [Office365 admin center] will not be the ones similar to a normal Office365 subscription bought directly. You are essentially trying to hack the system by directly going to https://account.activedirectory.windowsazure.com/UserManagement/MultifactorVerification.aspx. URL and setting up app passwords. Godaddy has policies in place which will override the settings you have setup here. You can check the admin center provided by godaddy to manage your Office365 edition. You may have been able to set it up once but after a period it would be blocked because these features do not come with the plan you have . You would also need to check this with godaddy support as to what kind of limitations they have within Office365 currently.

From Microsoft side , we can not do anything as the system design restricts the hosted mail environment agreement with Godaddy and that is the reason they sell the O365 email service at a different price point than us because they provide limited services. I would suggest you to go through the discussion on the same within godaddy forums here and engage with Godaddy support further for any queries.

Hope this clarifies your doubts. We will now close this issue. Should you have any further queries or you are using any different version of O365 , you can also check within the Office365 tech community but as far as my knowledge goes , you will need godaddy's help in this as the control of the environment is on their side.

Thank you.

@shashishailaj thank you for your reply but it is working fine now. I don't understand the limitation & hack thing you are talking about?
