"Grant the VM agent and the service principal contributor...." Confusing

Under the Prerequisites->Azure Synapse Analytics, the following step is confusing. What should we really do here and where and how? Grant the VM agent and the service principal contributor rights to the resource group in which the new workspace is hosted.

Is there a way we can clarify this step?
