Limitation infomation on DEP #83684

Closed yuharucan closed 4 months ago

yuharucan commented 2 years ago

[Enter feedback here] If DEP is enabled, some limitations appear, I think. For example, some Cognitive APIs are not supported like the following Docs shows. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/synapse-analytics/machine-learning/overview-cognitive-services

And AML are not supported like the following Docs show. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/machine-learning/how-to-configure-private-link?tabs=python **Synapse's data exfiltration protection is not supported with Azure Machine Learning.

So additional comment about above limitation had better be written on this page. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/synapse-analytics/security/workspace-data-exfiltration-protection e.g.) Limitation If DEP is enabled, Azure Machine Learning is not supported. And there are some limitations about Cognitive APIs. Please refer this page about details.(https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/synapse-analytics/machine-learning/overview-cognitive-services)

@RonyMSFT, it would be very important to update the docs as stated by [yuharucan]. Users are constantly running into issues with DEP because they were not aware of the limitations when activating DEP during the workspace creation because the limitations are not well documented (in a single place). Additionally, Purview lineage doesn't seem to work with DEP-enabled workspaces either (the Azure IR can't push lineage from Synapse to Purview) - this isn't documented at all.

Indeed. Many customers are encountering the limitations and asking for workaround. Would be nice to have workaround documented somewhere, instead of 'Synapse's data exfiltration protection is not supported with Azure Machine Learning.'
