This led some of our developers to believe the WEBSITE_RUN_FROM_PACKAGE setting was not supported on a Basic-tier Linux-based app, but we have tried it on a B1-tier app, and not only did it work just fine, it actually solved a significant deployment issue with deployment lock failures when updating the app.
I suspect this is just an oversight, or perhaps us being a little confused about the different tiers - could the document be clarified to mention the Basic tier.
