What happened to the old MSDN samples repository? #2241

Open henrihein opened 4 years ago

henrihein commented 4 years ago

Link to article: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/samples/browse/?redirectedfrom=MSDN-samples

Problem: I cannot find the samples I contributed in the past. If the old samples were deleted, it would have been a nice touch to notify the contributors.

Check the Microsoft Archive repositories.

Thanks Youssef, that's helpful. Do you know if they are still working on it?

Youssef1313 commented 4 years ago

@henrihein, I think they're working on migrating the samples from the old retired code.msdn to the new samples browser. Here is the announcement of retiring MSDN Code Gallery.

I am also missing an useful entry. In my project I have used the link, now it is redirected to the startpage of MSDN samples and the article is no longer available. How to retrieve this information again? The article I am talking about is https://code.msdn.microsoft.com/windowsdesktop/Creating-a-simple-plugin-b6174b62

Edit: The article was written by Christoph Gattnar and provides information about how to create a plugin mechanism in C#.

@ThirtySomething, The samples exist in the Microsoft Archive organization I mentioned in a previous comment.

Hopefully, you're looking for the following:

@Youssef1313 thanks for finding the links. I've read your hint but was unable to find the correct links. Using this link here https://github.com/microsoftarchive?utf8=%E2%9C%93&q=&type=&language= I have searched for Christoph Gattnar, plugin and other keywords without success. Well done search. thanks.

Youssef1313 commented 4 years ago

@ThirtySomething, From the link you provided you can identify that the sample is called Creating a simple plugin. So, I just went to the appropriate repository which is "msdn-code-gallery-community-a-c", from there I found the sample

@Youssef1313 thanks for introducing the way to find the previous MSDN entries. Perfect, really.
