FSharp.Core library reference is really hard to find #2536

Open aggieben opened 4 years ago

🛑 IMPORTANT: You can get your feedback addressed faster if you use the comment section for the article in which you encountered a problem (if available).

Link to article: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/visualfsharpdocs/conceptual/fsharp-core-library-reference

Problem: The content, article itself is ok, but it's not linked from the current documentation for F♯ on docs.microsoft.com, and it has fallen totally out of search results. This is pretty important documentation, and it should be discoverable even though it's currently in the process of being migrated to docs.microsoft.com. The fact is that it isn't migrated yet, and it's been months, and we need a way to find this while we wait.

Thank you for creating the issue! One of our team members will get back to you shortly with additional information. If this is a product issue, please close this and contact the particular product's support instead (see https://support.microsoft.com/allproducts for the list of support websites).

aggieben commented 4 years ago

Ok folks; it was bad enough that this documentation wasn't searchable, but now it just redirects back to docs.microsoft.com where it doesn't exist. It is quite inaccessible now.

This stinks.

aggieben commented 4 years ago

Any update here?

aggieben commented 4 years ago

Can someone please put eyes on this? The reference documentation for the most important library in F♯ has been offline for nearly a month now.

If you're on this issue because you're looking for the API docs there's a fan generated list while Microsoft sorts out the docs, thanks @baronfel !

@cartermp There are so many issues coming in about broken links in the F# docs. Are you aware that https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/visualfsharpdocs/conceptual/fsharp-core-library-reference is no longer available?

cartermp commented 4 years ago

Yep. (pasted here from other dupes)

We're working with the team that does redirects on this one. The core issue is a small handful of links needed redirection, but something went awry and the whole reference was redirected. It's apparently a little tricky.

Any updates here?

cartermp commented 4 years ago

@aggieben there's still some things awry here, but all the links to actual documentation are live: https://msdn.microsoft.com/visualfsharpdocs/conceptual/collections.list-module-%5bfsharp%5d

This link in particular is still broken (as is the root of the F# Interactive reference), so we'll have to look into that. But other issues files (e.g., can't access the List module docs) should be resolved now.

aggieben commented 4 years ago

@cartermp is there any change here? I just tried navigating to any other page in this reference documentation and except the one link you posted here, it's 404s as far as the eye can see.

cartermp commented 4 years ago

There's been changes, but apparently there are still redirect errors happening. Individual links will work, but clicking in the TOC won't work.

aggieben commented 4 years ago

How do you get individual links?

hickford commented 3 years ago

I agree! https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/fsharp/language-reference/#f-core-library-api-reference links to https://fsharp.github.io/fsharp-core-docs/ but it's hard to find from https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/fsharp/ . In particular, if you use the search function for eg. List.allPairs you won't find the page at https://fsharp.github.io/fsharp-core-docs/reference/fsharp-collections-listmodule.html#allPairs
