Enable cookies when adding GitHub link as a channel tab in New Teams #9871

Our team is trying to save a web link to a GitHub Project as a channel tab. After the tab is clicked and the user signs in, we receive a black screen with white text saying "Cookies must be enabled to use GitHub." If the "Open in browser" option is selected, the website loads normally. This only happens in New Teams and does not happen in old Teams or in the mobile app.

We will check this and get back to you. Are you trying to add the Github project as a static tab?

Same issue here...

Yes. Precisely.

If I am understanding Tab terminology correctly, I think what we are trying to do is add a "configurable" tab at the top of a channel. See the attached screenshot. The "Task Board" tab is intended to be a link to the GitHub Project. tabs

Meghana-MSFT commented 9 months ago

Could you please share the steps you are following to add the tab?

tfilben-elemance commented 9 months ago

We hit the "+" (see screenshot in my last post) then "Website" and input the Project URL.

mike-mgt commented 9 months ago

Same here. We click the plus button, enter the project URL (which requires authentication to access):

But once you click the Sign In button, you get this error:

Cookies must be enabled to use GitHub. image

Yep, same problem for us.

Hi @tfilben-elemance , @mike-mgt - We are able to repro this issue. We have raised a bug for the same. We will inform you once we get any further update from engineering team. Thanks!

Same issue here

msuchard commented 8 months ago

Error persists and severely limits the use of "new" Teams in our organization!

Meghana-MSFT commented 8 months ago

We are checking internally, we will get back to you.

Is there any ETA on fixing this issue?

We have the following update from engineering team -

The Website tab is not going to work the same in the New Teams Client as it did in the Classic Teams Client. Customers who currently depend on the Website tab should switch to using apps and if an app is not available, they should reach out to the owners of the content and ask them to build one (in this case, that would be GitHub).

@Meghana-MSFT I understand these are different teams, but you represent GitHub's parent company, Microsoft. So we are asking for a very basic integration between these two products. While we can contact GitHub to ask them to develop an integration, there are no similar integrations available from GitHub except for repository management. This is a disappointing resolution to a critical feature you have removed from an existing product. We need solutions, not redirections. Especially when the issue is clearly on your end and we are dealing with Microsoft-related products.

I was looking for an update on this issue and I just found this answer on another post Allowing cookies in New Teams Website tab . I don't think this is an issue anymore, since Microsoft Teams retired this feature last April. I still can add a Website tab in Channels, but I think this will not be available in the near future. @tfilben-elemance / @Meghana-MSFT / @mike-mgt, FYI.
